Sometimes, vulnerable adults can feel that they’re not seen or heard, or that their needs aren’t met. Occasionally, we see this with ourselves. Other times, we see this with friends and family members. Whatever the case for vulnerable adults, Falcon Housing Association C.I.C (FHA) is here to help. Find out today how you can help overcome barriers and begin to enjoy a fulfilling and independent life.
-
Ask for support
Firstly, overcoming barriers is recognising what those barriers are and how you can move them. It could be needing someone to help with daily tasks, like cleaning. Or a person to accompany you out and about. It could be building better relationships with others, like the community where you live. Or it might be physical adaptations needed to a home to make it somewhere you can comfortably live.
-
Grow your confidence
Confidence gives us the motivation we need to overcome difficult situations. It’s a powerful mental tool that makes sure we’re not just heard, but really listened to. And it helps us take forward steps toward being more independent in the way we live our lives.
-
Give everyday meaning
Having things we love to do not only gives us a sense of purpose, but also shapes our day – bringing positivity and creating valuable experiences. It might be a hobby you enjoy, it might be getting out of the house, or it might be learning to be more independent in an area you find tricky, yet rewarding. Whatever it is, find it, and use it.
-
Build a positive environment
It could be the building where you live or the people who you socialise with. But ensuring you have the right things and people around you can make a huge world of difference and actually encourage you to live more independently.
-
Track your progress
Barriers don’t get broken down overnight. Instead, they take time, effort and consistency – and you’ll need the right things in place (like your confidence) to break them.
