How To Personalise Your Independent Living Space

20th May 2019

We encourage all of our tenants to personalise their living space and bed rooms so that they can feel that their independent living house is really a home. At Falcon Housing Association, we encourage our tenants’ families to be involved in all of the decision-making processes to ensure that the best housing solution is achieved for each individual. We aim to give our tenants homes for life that they can feel comfortable in, so here’s a handy guide on how to personalise your independent living space.

Soft furnishings

Soft furnishings like cushions, rugs, and blankets are a great way to make an independent living house feel more like a comfy, cosy home. Cushions in the tenant’s favourite colours or patterns help to add splashes of fun and brightness to a bed or sofa. Themed cushions and blankets baring film characters might also make a fun addition if your loved one particularly enjoys those franchises.

Photographs & posters

Photographs in photo frames to stand on surfaces or displayed on the walls are a nice homely touch to an independent living space. Photos from holidays, days out, special occasions, and birthdays will be a welcome addition to a tenant’s independent living space because it can remind them that this space is theirs. Posters of the tenant’s favourite singers, films, or interests might also be fun to display in the shared living areas and their bed room.

Bringing belongings from home

Bring along some familiar possessions from the family home that your tenant would like in their independent living space. This could be anything from a soft toy, to a lamp, to a collection of figurines. Any personal effects that will help to personalise their living space and make it feel more familiar to the tenant, the more comfortable they will inevitably feel.

Regular family visits

Regular visits from their family and those close to them will help your tenant’s transition period from living in the family home to taking ownership of their own space. We encourage family members to be a part of the decision-making processes with the tenant, so the best experience of our independent living services can be had by both.
