Specialist Supported Living: True or False

4th September 2020

As a national specialist supported housing association, we’re on a mission to assist those with disabilities through supported living. Whether you’re interested in our work for your own needs or someone else’s, it’s important to know what’s involved and exactly what we can offer, so in this post, we’ll talk through some common ‘true or false’ statements.

Specialist supported living is expensive: FALSE

In our opinion, you cannot put a price on independence – or the quality of someone’s life. However, it’s good to know there may be help available to you, such as assistance from your local authority. You can contact us for more information about this.

Specialist supported living can be for everyone: TRUE

The amount of independence needed varies from person to person and case to case, and you might be surprised to hear how flexible it can be. Whether you’re a young person looking for a place to call your own following your studies, or you’ve been living with family and friends and now want to move on, we can help. It makes no difference whether you want to live alone or share, we can work with you to find a tailored solution that works for you.

‘Specialist supported living’ only relates to housing: FALSE

Though we are a specialist supported housing association and so by definition specialise in social housing, our staff can also help sign post you in other areas, from education to employment, and even social elements.

Specialist supported living is tailored to the individual: TRUE

Whatever your circumstances, we will work with our partners to ensure a tailored care and support plan is provided, covering the type, amount and regularity of support needed. There are lots of fantastic benefits to specialist supported living, but perhaps the biggest one is how person-centred the service delivered is.

You can only have supported living in a residential home: FALSE

At Falcon Housing Association C.I.C (FHA), we’re recognised for being a national provider, offering specialist supported social housing across the UK. That could be in your own house or in shared living. Whatever your needs, we can help – there’s even the option of flexible support up to 24 hours a day delivered by one of our partnering Care Providers (CP).
